Operation Red Flag (OPRF)

In celebration of OPRF 1st anniversary the 21st of november 2016, we will host an airshow. All pilots in planes/helis with military liveries are invited to exhibit.


Location: Colorado Springs Airbase (KCOS)

Comms: Allfex Mumble (Discord will be used for behind the scenes coordination)

Time 1: 1900 Zulu - 2200 Zulu Saturday 26th November 2016
Time 2: 0500 Zulu - 0900 Zulu Sunday 27th November 2016


The event will be filmed, introductions to each aircraft will be made. Music will be added where appropiate.


To participate
Sign up in this thread with the following info:

• Aircraft.
• Aircraft and livery download link.
• Pilot callsign.
• Approx time you are available to fly.
• If your exhibition takes more than a couple of minutes, please note that.
• Optionally request certain music for the video.
• Optionally request certain introduction or talk during display. You are welcome to send a soundfile if you want to do it yourself.

Practical Info
We prefer if you can communicate via Mumble or Discord, that will make every thing much easier. Also not to fill the screen with MP messages.
When you show up, pick a parking position at Nellis and notify us that you have arrived.
Be prepared to wait a bit till you get your turn, please be patient.
Please do not interfere in the displays unless its part of the act.
Maybe we are going to need ATC ground control, details will be forthcoming.

I just discovered default Nellis does not have parking positions.
Its best to use default airport as so everyone don't have to download custom scenery. And also to keep frame-rates down when filming.

So any suggestions for other airbase? Must not be Europe or near KSFO as the scenery is too detailed there. Must have parking positions per default.

Just kinda spot checked some:

KDMA has ~8
KVBG has 1
KLUF has 4
KCOS has 1

Confirm me for Sunday for sure and I will try and let you know about Saturday. Mirage 2000-5 Sunday and if I can do Saturday the Bicentennial F-4 Phantom. I will arrive at starting time and wait my turn. 4-6 minutes max. Callsign obviously Swamp.

Any license requirements regarding music? I mean, can I also use well known songs or does it create problems?

An F-4 display is listed. Do we have an F-4 near or at operational condition? Just wondering.

Tripoli? Suggested because flat desert terrain => not too many triangles(?)

Dave Culp made an F-4 Bicentennial with smoke. We won't be dogfighting.

Lets just put in the msuic we want, if Youtube complains, normally it just means more commercials in the video.

KCOS is most likely to be the location unless some come up with a better location today, it has parking position. Today because I want location to be settled when I cross post this in main FG forums later today.

Flat terrain does not mean fewer triangles as far as I know to how the terrain system work. It depends on the resolution of the source GIS data, which was very detailed for Europe and less for Americas, Africa, Austalia and Asia.

The F-4 is fine, you can fly any mil aircraft, doesn't have to be from our list.

Honestly I don't like the idea of getting away from what are considered our "home bases" just because they don't have parking positions.
For me they don't work in any case so I have to taxi away from runway before spawning in MP anyway.
I've requested for parking positions on Jwocky's forum, let's see if someone can help us.

Anyway, I'll perform on Saturday with both F-15C and KC-137R, will post further details once I've planned everything.

Youtube doesn't care, you just can't monetize it. You'll find songs by well known artist on 50 million different videos on youtube.

JMav, KLSV isn't happening. Leto also said he didn't want the need for anything beyond terrasync, so adding parking positions doesn't help us get to KLSV.

Is KCOS going to be sufficient with just 1 parking space? What about KDMA? Thats where I have been practicing anyway, I just assumed that would be the place due to parking.

Yes, 1 parking position will work just fine, then people don't spawn in infront of camera.

KDMA only has 1 runway I think, so I thought bigger KCOS would be nicer, also so you easier spot the airbase from the air when doing maneuvering.

After looking at both, I'd also vote for KCOS over KDMA. KCOS has dual runways which would be nice (one plane taking off/landing and getting ready, one plane being filmed and maneuvering), as well as buildings for better scenery.

KCOS didn't have building when I checked it, maybe it was my settings.
